Yoga Club Classes

About our Yoga Classes

Blood, toil, sweat and tears: well, nearly but not quite! The club is for people new to yoga or more experienced students looking for a fresh approach based upon Johnston Lowry’s (our teacher and founder) numerous years of practising and teaching yoga from diverse yoga-teaching traditions.

Class Size: Members

No two classes are the same. Class sizes are sensible so that we can communicate effectively, and you get the attention you deserve. Most members are between 30 and 70, male and female. We’re an assorted, friendly bunch of people who simply enjoy practising yoga because we know it’s good for us.

Equipment

We provide you with yoga: mats. belts, blocks, bricks. We suggest that if you become a devotee of yoga that you invest in your own equipment, including yoga bolsters and blankets. We can secure you a substantial discount on goods provided by Yoga Matters. A towel and something warm to wear during the relaxation is handy.

Clothing

Nothing flash or fancy is needed. Standard fitness clothing from the established brands is fine. It’s handy if it’s light and breathable so that you’re comfortable.

Aims and Objectives

It’s good to know that there’s a plan: however, you always have to expect the unexpected. More often than not the session has to be adapted because yoga is about people, their moods and ability. To stick rigidly to a plan is often just not going to work.

Conversely: failing to plan is planning to fail. An experienced teacher knows how to strike the right balance and how to pitch the session at the appropriate level for the most important people in the room: you: the student(s).

What you bring to yoga

Just yourself and your best endeavours.

That aside: a good comparison is that of learning a musical instrument. The most talented of musicians will tell you that to become good at it requires constant practice, determination and enthusiasm to learn. So it is with yoga.
